I was so excited when I heard that another adaptation was being made.  I love the story of OZ though I haven't read the book (I've been on hold at the library for it).  I am a big movie buff and have noticed that the reviews have been all over the place.  People like it or they don't.  Personally I thought it was great... the CGI was really good.  Of course I went to the IMAX (not the fake IMAX) and in 3D (I also think this movie needs to be seen in 3D).

I think one complaint about the movie is the humor.  I thought the humor was hilarious, but it is the type of humor I find funny. James Franco was perfect in as the wizard. Johny Deep and Robert Downy Jr were in talks to actually play OZ.. interesting how that would've changed the movie.  I thought the story was a good story about how the wizard ends up in OZ in the first place.  I was very nervous about this movie since Sam Raimi totally destroyed Spider Man 3.

I am not sure about kids going to this movie.. parents will have to decide this themselves.  There were a lot of scary moments where you jump when a monster pops out on the screen. This movie is not as sweet as The Wonderful Wizard of OZ where there is a lot of character development.  But those movies don't seem to be the blockbusters people are running out to see anymore.

I would say see this movie if you can get past it not being like the original movie.  And this one needs to be seen in 3D.. it was made for it!
