Top Ten Pool Reads

This week's top Ten Tuesday is Beach Reads!  I love the beach... and I mean I LOVE the beach.  But I don't live by the beach.  Soooo... my list is actually a top ten POOL reads!   Soooo... here is my list.  Give these books a try this summer!

I am going to start out this week with my favorite children's book EVER.  The Rainbow Goblins by Ul De Rico.  This book is really great.  The art is amazing.. and the story is so neat.  It's about some greedy goblins who eat rainbows and what happens to them when they go a little overboard eating them!

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich is my second pick.  These books are fun... I think they are up to nineteen now.  The series follows character Stephanie Plum as she tries to get a job (and does) as a bounty hunter.  She has a few loves and many mishaps.  So fun!!

Another great read by the pool is The Little Prince by Antonie De Saint-Exupery.  It is about a Prince who leaves his planet and goes around and discovers the universe.  Perfect!

Perfect book for summer!  Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress by Shelly Mazzanoble.  If you are bored this summer why not learn how to play some board games?  Dungeons and Draons is perfect.  I loved this book when I first started playing.  Great tips.  Of course one of the tips is when you are the host be sure to provide snacks and drinks.  But the people I play with have no jobs... and then we ended up constantly playing at my house.  I realized I was the only one providing drinks and snacks so now I don't offer anything!

The 39 Clues is a fabulous series!!  There are like 14 books now and they are all by different authors.  I guess you could call these middle grade books.  They follow the mystery of the Cahill siblings as they try to find the 39 clues before the other family members.  These books are short enough that you could read one each time you go to the pool.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is a magical book.  The thing about this book though is either you like it or you don't.  I love the love story of two sorcerers ... and the magical places they create.  It makes me think of summer nights.

I love this book so much!  Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is just way cool!  It is one of the best sci-fi books out there.  The games and the 80s themes in here are fun.  Everyone should read this who is a geek (or thinks their a geek).

If you are looking to start a new graphic novel series this summer check out Fables by Bill Willingham.  These stories are similar to Once Upon a Time on ABC and Grimm on NBC (though neither gives the graphic novels the credit).  There is also going to be a movie based off these soon as well.  I am up to issue 12!

Are you looking for something HILARIOUS?  Well then take this lovely book to the pool!!!  If you have never been to the Oatmeal website and check out their comics you are missing out.  How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You is perfect for a light funny read.

If you are looking for something to listen to in your iPod while at the pool then check this out!  Stephen King has written a spooky CD for us to listen to.  It's called Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.  If you are interested in listening to it BEFORE you buy is The Wall Street Journal provides it free here.  Lots of great artists on the tracks so give it a listen.
