Little Big Planet Karting - Video Game Review

Little BIG Planet Karting is a racing game based off the characters from the main game Little Big Planet.  This game is very similar to Mario Kart to me.  A few things are added though to make it stand out more.   As you race around you can pick up little award bubbles that you can use later to enhance your sackboy/sackgirl.  Decorate your house that you get to live or your kart that you drive.  Your cars can be tanks, bees, hovers, spaceships, and many more!

This is the menu when you fix up your kart

The game is a little short to me.  You travel to 6 worlds and each world you race a different track and when you beat them you then unlock the next track.

This is one of the worlds you travel to

The music and the graphics are just as fun as the original Little Big Planet games.  Weapons can be fired at other racers which can really change your rank on the track.  This game is highly addictive and we want to finish it in one sitting.  You are able to use the Playstation Move but I am don't have it, and have never been interested in the Move.

Overall I say this is a really fun racing game with lots to do.  I do wish there was more tracks to race on but there are enough side missions and things to collect that it is still really enjoyable.

Injustice - Video Game Review

Time for a video game review here at Angela's Anxious Life.  I look forward to these every week!  This week we are going to chat about Injustice.  I love this game.  I first heard about it at San Diego Comic Con in 2012.   I love superheroes so I was really hoping this would be a good game.  Sometimes I get really excited about a game and then it is no good.  This is not the case here.

It is a fighter game... so it's similar to the Mortal Combat/Street Fighter type game play.  The graphics are amazing and make the game really fun.  The stages where you fight are fun, these include the Batcave, the Watchtower and Fortress of Solitude. Each of the charcters (see picture below) has their own power while playing.  For example, Superman when powered up will send you straight into space, Batman will send his car to run you over, and Aquaman will send a giant shark to bite you.  When new to the game it was neat to play each character and unlock these powers.

One thing the game has done to keep people wanting to play is to have downloadable content to keep adding new characters and skins (outfits for the characters) to unlock.  I think this helps make the game addictive which is keeping someone playing.  The story mode in the game is neat.  It is separated into different chapters where you are in an alternate reality where you meet the same superheroes who are bad so you have to defeat them.  Unfortunately redbox did not carry this game but luckily a couple friends of mine bought it so I was able to play it through them.

I recommend this game to everyone who likes either superheroes/comics or fighting games.  It is available on WiiU, Xbox, PS3 and iOS.  Conan O'Brian does a hilarious video in his video game series where he as a non-gamer tries out this video game. You are able to see the game play in this video too.

HA! He is so funny. Oh and by the way... I button mash soooo much when playing fighter games.  BUTTON MASH FOR THE WIN!  I like the controllers that Conan and his friend are using.  Not sure what system they are for?  Does anyone know?

Well... this game is amazing!

Minecraft-Video Game Reviews

I hear people talk about this game all the time.  Lots of people just love it.  So I finally decided to pick it up from redbox.  I just don't get it.  WHAT?  I played it for a few hours by myself.  Walking around the world building things.  If you don't know much about Minecraft it's a game where you just simply go around the world collecting supplies and building objects from it.  I liked it at first when I went through the tutorial and there were objectives that I could complete.  The picture below is of the objects you can use to build things. Once I finished the tutorial though, and I was on my own I was a little bored.

Never fear though.. I was really excited about the mutiplayer mode. I kept trying to find someone online to play with but no game was showing up that I could join.  I thought.. well that can't be.  I know a lot of people play this!  Turns out you can only play it with friends who are actually on your friends list on XBOX Live.  So my friend jumped online who owns it and we joined up in a world together.  We walked and walked.. and sort of built some stuff.  It was really laggy.  What he was doing I couldn't really see until a few seconds later.. even my own stuff I was building was lagged.

I guess people build some pretty amazing stuff.  The above house was not built by me, I wish.  I expected the multiplayer to be way different.  I thought I was going to be able to join a world where there were lots of XBOX live members playing and we would all run around together.  Yes.. these people online might be able to burn down or knock down what you built but I think they system should be set up more like Halo maybe.  If they do that you can boot them from your game.  I don't know .. this game just wasn't for me.  My friend did tell me he plays it while listening to a book on CD.

Conan O'Brian plays this video game on his show and as usual just like his other video game videos it's hilarious!!

For those of you wondering what the game play looks like that video will show you what to expect. I thought I would enjoy it a little more. I only played it for a few hours. At least I only paid $2 to rent it!

The Walking Dead - Video Game Review

AMAZING... that is the only words for this game. AMAZING! The Walking Dead is a game where you get to follow along different chapters and make decisions.  The decisions you make will determine what happens during the game.  If you kill someone they will no longer be in your group of survivors, if you save them they will for example. The game consists of 5 episodes (with a new one released right now that you can buy through Playstaion network or Xbox Live).  The new one is under The Walking Dead 400 Days which still has 4 episodes left to release.  I will wait for them all to be released together so I can rent the disk from RedBox.

This game has no puzzles or big mysteries to solve.  You just follow the story line along and push the different buttons on the controller to make decisions. The neat thing is that the choices you make will either make the survivors in your group like Lee (the character you play) or dislike Lee. The player of the game can interact will all the surroundings.. which makes exploring a lot of fun.

The plot in this story is really what makes it truly fun.  You play the character of Lee who finds himself in the world surround by zombies out of no where.  You meet quite a few characters along the way including a young girl named Clementine.  Lee protects her from the zombies by being friends or enemies with people.  Lying or telling them the truth.  All the choices are up to you.  The ending of this game is a tearjerker!  I don't normally get all weepy when gaming but this game does it!

This game is NOT to be confused with The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.  I played that one too and it was awful and not even close to the Epicness of this game.   We won't even go there right now!

I have to be honest... I cheated a little in this game.  I mean .. I HAD to know what would've happened if I had made different choices.  So every time I made a big decision I went to the walkthroughs to see what would've happened if I had did something else.  I mean.. I just couldn't help myself!  And if you don't look bravo!!  I just need to know every little thing about this game!

Halo 4 - Video Game Review

Halo is one of the best video game franchises of all time. There I said it. I love love this series.  I have been playing it for years.  Halo has one of the best multiplayer platforms.  Halo and Call of Duty are usually compared by gamers.  You are either in the Halo camp or the Call of Duty camp.  I am in the Halo camp obviously.  In Halo 4 Bungie (who is the original developer) has stepped down and 343 has taken over. 343 did a pretty amazing job of revamping the series.  They made an amazing live action series to watch prior to playing the game. Really it's a great series.. even if you don't play the game you should watch.  This is what a Halo movie should be like:

The story in Halo 4 is really good too.  Humanity is under attack by an alien race, Master Chief (the main character in the series) is back to help save us.  Since this is game 4 in the series you can read more about the history of Halo here.  Multiplayer on this game is just as fun as past games. Many people call it Red VS Blue since you are a team of 4 fighting and shooting another team of 4.  One being Red one being Blue.  There is even a hilarious internet show called Red VS Blue.  I am posting episode one here but the difference between episode 1 to the newest episode from today is amazing.  The graphics and technology has changed so much in between now and then.

If you haven't checked out the Conan O'Brian series where he plays video games.. you must. It is hilarious. He plays Halo 4 in the next video (which allows you to see the gameplay too). He is actually a voice in the game which is really funny when he encounters his character. I love how he has no idea what he is doing but has fun.

I have played the Halo series for years. Sometimes every night with my friends in multiplayer mode. It is fun to just be online and chat with them while we run around on missions.

Tomb Raider (2013)- Video Game Review

Wow.. I loved this game.  The revamp of the Tomb Raider series really impressed me.  I have always attempted the previous Tomb Raiders but never beat them.  They were complicated and since I rented them I didn't have much time to play them.  I wish though I could rent some of the old ones to play again (I don't have a GameFly account and now that Blockbusters is gone well... there went that).  I kept hearing about this new Tomb Raider and the changes that were made.  You could finally have some good combat!  To be honest this game reminds me of the gameplay of the Uncharted series. I love that you can power up the weapons you find... power up even your skills.

Lara Croft is the main character in this series.  Some of you may know that there have been two movies based off this game series both staring Angelina Jolie as Lara.   She does a really good job of portraying the old Lara Croft.  The new Croft in the game is much softer and smaller boobs!  I love that there were secret tombs to find all over the different levels of the game.  Also... treasure to find.  Though I didn't find all of that since I rented the game and couldn't spend forever on it.

Did you know Conan O'Brian plays video games and does a segment?  Well this is hilarious!  He isn't actually a gamer so that makes it more fun.  I love his sense of humor so this is funny!

I think this is a really fun game. I give it a 9 out of 10.

Bioshock Infinite- Video Game Review

I am a little behind on my video game reviews.  I played this a while back... it is an amazing game.  I rented Bioshock Infinite from Red Box and played it on the Xbox 360 (my preferred platform).   It is a first person shooter game that has amazing graphics.  I loved Bioshock 1 & 2 but this one is completely different.  The first two games in the series takes place in an under water world where this one takes place on a city in the sky.  The city you play in is called Columbia and it is a town launched in the air in 1893 during the World's Fair.

In the game you play as Booker, who is on a mission to save Elizabeth who has been a prisoner on the air island since she was a child. Elizabeth's character is such a great edition to this game.  She helps Booker out on many adventures and really does well interacting with him in the game.  During the game Booker gets mutated abilities from some drinks (Tonics) he finds around Columbia. Which really add to the fun of the game.  You spend time search for them and then you spend time ranking them up. You are able to use a skyhook throughout the game that help you grip onto freight hooks, sky rails, and dismounting with a knockout of foes.  This really makes the game more exciting and again the graphics here are excellent.

The story plot for this game is simply amazing. It really reads as a novel. The end will blow your mind.  People are still talking about it and it seems to me that everyone thinks something different happens at the end.  I love how at the end we get a nod to Rapture (which is the world the first two Bioshocks take place in). Pick up Bioshock Infinite game up soon!

10 out of 10 for this game!!!  Perfect!

Journey-Review

Journey is an AMAZING game.  I kept hearing about this game and how beautiful the graphics are.  Journey is really unlike any games I have ever played.  There is no fighting, no talking to other people, no crazy music. In fact the music is BEAUTIFUL. People can't stop talking about it!   It is so visually stimulating that I am glad I played it on my home theater and could watch it unfold on a large screen. Here is some music from the game, with game shots included!

The online player blew me away as well.  I had read about it where you could team up with someone and do the puzzles together.  Well next thing I know I am in the middle of playing and then someone pops up out of no where.  It was so fun to play with them even though we couldn't even speak to each other.  The game is very short which was the only downside to me.  I think I played about 2 hours.  And then the game was over.  I wanted MORE!  I can't say enough about the beauty in this game... here is a 55 second video:

It's unfortunate that this is PS3 exclusive game. I know that the PS3 has the best graphics, period. But it really makes it to where more people can't enjoy Journey.  I find that this game proves that video games can be for everyone.  A lot of people think of video games as these shooter up things that are awful and I wish they could just see this game!  I had played another one of this companies game's called Flower which was on display at the Art of Video Games exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.  Another wonderful game!

Halo Encyclopedia by Tobias Buckell Review

OK so I know people who actually follow me are probably like, "another Halo book review?".  Boring right?  No way!  I love love love to play the game and this book is great whether you play or not.  I took some great pictures from it and well... let me first post the goodreads description:

With this newly updated and comprehensive Halo Encyclopedia, now with sixteen pages of brand new content including Halo's newest game, Halo: Reach, both new and pro gamers can learn everything they ever wanted to know about Master Chief and the Halo universe. I must say I was blown away at this book. All color pages.. large pages at that. And the art work was great. Not just game shots but actual art work. In fact my words probably can't describe it enough.. that is why I took quite a few pictures of the inside of this book!

AMAZING for gamers to get or a gift for a gamer in your life who likes Halo.  I got two Halo books from the library at the same time so I promise I won't have a Halo post for a while.... maybe.

Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric S. Nylund Review

So I thought I would give this series a go!  Here is the goodreads description:

As the bloody Human-Covenant War rages on Halo, the fate of humankind may rest with one warrior, the lone SPARTAN survivor of another legendary battle . . . the desperate, take-no-prisoners struggle that led humanity to Halo--the fall of the planet Reach. Now, brought to life for
the first time, here is the full story of that glorious, doomed conflict.

Yea I know terribly short description!  As some of you may know I love love love this video game. So a friend of mine owed the books based of the game and I decided to try it out.  I'll admit that I really enjoyed learning about the main character of the games, Master Chief.  It was an exciting story about his origins.  This book was mainly sci-fi so we get to see the human race try to deal with aliens or "the Covenant" take over human planets.  This is the first time I have read a novel about war, and I will admit that I didn't enjoy the war sections of the book.  I just thought that part was kinda boring. So and so loads his weapon, so and so keeps the ship in space, so and so fixes his uniform.  Just not interested in that kind of a story.

I do hate the art work on this book.  I mean how simple can you get? Cheap looking art work to me, and why?  Because it is a book based off a video game?  Anyways... you can always find me on Xbox Live my gamertag is Estel0212.  If you want to join up and game with me! Oh and here is my character on Halo....
