Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor-Review

I finally got my hands on book 2 of Daughter of Smoke and Bone.  A really interesting series, here is the goodreads description:

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war. This is not that world. Art student and monster's apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it. In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Karou must decide how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, secrets and impossible choices, Days of Blood & Starlight finds Karou and Akiva on opposing sides as an age-old war stirs back to life. While Karou and her allies build a monstrous army in a land of dust and starlight, Akiva wages a different sort of battle: a battle for redemption. For hope. But can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?

Well this was a long book and takes a little while to get going.  But once it does WHAM! This review will contain spoilers from the first book so be warned.  I thought though Days of Blood and Starlight  did keep the story going unlike some second books in series. Daughter of Smoke and Bone introduces us to a world with angels and demons live in their own world completely apart from our world.  I loved it.  This book continues this .. but this time around most of the book takes place outside of our world.  We spend most of our time in the world of the demons and angels.

Karou is really wonderful in this book.  She is just as strong as in the first book and is trying to deal with her new talent of resurrecting the dead. She is trying to help the Chimera army. Akiva is also still a good strong character.  The love story between the two is still amazing.  I just can't help rooting for them! One thing is for sure, the author Taylor sure can weave a story.  We know all the detail and the background for both the angels and chimera.  The fight scenes are also written so well, I didn't think they were over the top.

The ending was unexpected and went a different direction then I thought it would go.  I am not going to talk about it here because it is a huge spoiler.. and who likes those.

Here is my review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor Review

Let me start by saying I love love love this book!  Here is the goodreads description:
Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky. In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low. And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war. Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out. When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself

For those of you who follow my blog you know I am not good at re-telling the story. So read the goodreads description if you want that. I am just not good at it. Sorry. But my feelings on the book is it is FABULOUS! I mean I just love the descriptive telling of the surroundings. The magic the author can weave into my imagination is just GREAT! And to be honest I was surprised that by the time I finished the book it was amazing how Taylor turned this book into a romance.  Not your typical romance but I really felt the love between the characters.

I did think it was odd though that the main character had blue hair.  What is with authors lately and having crazy color hair?  I guess  it's like famous actors.. they can get away with it.  Normal people cannot walk into a job interview with blue hair and expect to get the job.  Maybe in Prague but not in Colorado Springs where I am from.

OK back to the book... I love the whole angel vs demon story!  I love the history and the glimpse into each race.   I mean WOW!  Just read this.  I am so interested in the next book I kinda wish I hadn't started the series until all books were out!! EEK!  Oh and the title of the second book was just announced!

I would love to know what you thought of this book... so leave a link below to your blog and your review so I can check it out!
