Just finished a great classic! Here is the goodreads description:
Elizabeth Bennet is the perfect Austen heroine: intelligent, generous, sensible, incapable of jealousy or any other major sin. That makes her sound like an insufferable goody-goody, but the truth is she's a completely hip character, who if provoked is not above skewering her antagonist with a piece of her exceptionally sharp -- but always polite -- 18th century wit. The point is, you spend the whole book absolutely fixated on the critical question: will Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy hook up?
Kind of a funny description of a book published in 1813! Sometimes I just need some old fashioned writing in my life. When just simple love stories happened. SOMETIMES I have no idea what the characters are saying and have to go back and re-read the paragraph but in a book like this I really don't mind. Austen's writing is not for everyone but I sure do like to read it. I will admit it took about 100 pages to really get into the book and characters but once I did it was great. I am going to now watch the movies so that maybe I can understand the books even more. I did want to MAKE Mr Darcy and Lizzy just get together and talk things out. So much was done by hearsay that I just wanted to choke people out! Someday I will read Pride Prejudice and Zombies. I actually considered reading it instead of this book because I hear it is the exact same writing as Austen's just with Zombies added in. But then I thought maybe I should read it the first time the way it's supposed to be read and then later go back and read it with Zombies included!
I have now read 4 of Austen's 6 novels. I still have to read Emma and Persuasion. I can't wait to dig into them... after I dig back into my TBR pile.
