Reading Road-Trip UTAH!

Welcome to my stop on the reading road-trip UTAH.  This event is hosted by I Like These Books and IceyBooks. After stopping by my stop be sure to check out the other states (you can see these at the end of the post).   I didn't get the state I wanted (Colorado of course) but I got the next best state Utah.  I lived in Utah for a few years and still have family there so I make several trips to Utah a year.  Such a wonderful state.

Now for some Utah facts (I might not know everything so if you are from Utah and have anything to add put it in the comments).

  • Utah is called the Beehive State.. this is because bees are hard workers and the settlers of Utah felt the same way.
  • Completion of the world's first transcontinental railroad was celebrated at Promontory where the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads met on May 10, 1869. It is now known as Golden Spike National Historic Site ( I have been here many times).
  • The Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City took 40 years to complete. The Mormon temples in St. George, Manti and Logan Utah were completed before the Salt Lake Temple. (Temple Square is a beautiful area to visit in Salt Lake City).
  • The Great Salt Lake covers 2,100 square miles, with an average depth of 13 feet. The deepest point is 34 feet ( I have been here many times and have even swam in it).
  • On February 8-24, 2002, Salt Lake City hosted the XIX Olympic Winter Games.
  • Utah is the only state whose capital's name is made of three words. All three words in Salt Lake City have four letters each,
There are many many more facts about Utah that are really interesting. If you haven't visited there you really should try.  I know most people don't think of Utah as a vacation spot but it is one of my favorite states.

        Great Salt Lake

Utah also has an amazing number of authors, really you should google the list.  Allie Condie, Shannon Hale,  Brandon Mull, Orson Scott Card, Bree Despain, and many many more.  Here is a great list on goodreads of Utah authors. I am also hosting a giveaway for Utah's Road Trip Stop.    YEAH!!  It is US only.  I am giving away Fablehaven by Brandon Mull.  A wonderful series.

Sign up through the rafflecopter below.  Book will be shipped through Barnes and Noble or Book Depository or Amazon.  Winner will have 48 hours to respond, after that time another winner will be chosen.

This is actually a blog hop, though I have noticed most people participating aren't posting links to all the blogs who are also doing states.  Which is sad because it's more fun if you travel around.  Here are the links to other blogs who are participating.  Be sure to stop by more states!  Hopefully next year the hopping part of the Road Trip is easier to find!

Hard Listening by Stephen King, Amy Tan, Dave Barry and more Giveaway

Have you heard of the Rock Bottom Remainders? No... oh man I am sorry for you!  It is a great band of authors who have joined together and make music. Rock Bottom Remainders  I am sure has a group member from someone who has written a book that you have read.  All these authors have sold over 350 million books. The group members are :   Dave Barry, Tad Bartimus, Roy Blount, Jr., Michael Dorris, Robert Fulghum, Kathi Kamen Goldmark , Matt Groening, Josh Kelly, Stephen King, Barbara Kingsolver, Greil Marcus, Dave Marsh,  Mitch Albom, Ridley Pearson, Joel Selvin, Amy Tan, Al Kooper musical director, Jerry Peters, Scott Turow,  James McBride, Greg Iles, Sam Barry, and Roger McGuinn.
As some of you may know I am a huge Stephen King fan.  So I am so pleased that the publisher Coliloquy asked if my group Stephen King Fans on goodreads would be interested in giving away a copy of Hard Listening to the members.  I knew the Constant Readers in the group would love it. In fact.. I know the band isn't performing anymore.. yes I know sooo sad!   But I thought I would post this fun video of Stephen King singing!

So fun to see authors jamming out. Plus I love music so that is a plus too. Here is a better video from Good Morning America where you can get a good look at all the authors and listen to an interview with them. They used to perform once a year for charity and would not be paid for their performances.  All money went to charity.

For those of you entering the giveaway this is an ebook only, available for iBooks, Kindle, Kobo, Android, and NOOK. The reason this is an ebook only is because it's an interactive book. There are with its collection of essays, stories, musings, group email exchanges, candid conversations, compromising photographs, and audio and video (semi-musical) clips, as well as interactive quizzes! I myself have not read the book yet so no review yet from me ( I want it now!!).  There is a pretty good review over at Fearnet.com if you want to read more about it. It sounds like a lot of fun.  The Huffington Post is doing a contest to see if you can guess which except was written by Stephen King, though if you plan on reading the book I would skip this and wait till you read it because you also guess this and get the answer in Hard Listening. An excerpt of Hard Listening can be found on the publisher Coliloquy's website

So for the giveaway.  This giveaway is for members of the Stephen King Fan group so it is a requirement to be a member of the group.  I will check.  All other entries are optional.  This giveaway will be open for one week and then the publisher will email you the ebook in the format you prefer.  I will get your information and then provide it to them.  Good Luck!

God of War Ascension-Review

I love the God of War series for Playstation.  I always have.  I love the way it plays and I really love the theme of mythology.  I am so happy that my library and Redbox provide video games.  I remember for years I would have to rent from Blockbusters and they would charge an arm and a leg.  Now I go to Redbox and rent a game for $2 a night!

This game to me was just as good as the other 3.  I did think it was kinda the same story same game... but it kept to what makes it popular and good.  I can't comment on the multiplayer because I forgot there was a multiplayer on this one and I already took it back to redbox when I remembered!!! ERRRR!!!  So unfortunately I didn't get to check that out. Also the Last of Us demo on this disk was just plain STUPID.  You click on it thinking you get to play and then it's a timer for 80 days.  Soooo didn't get to check that out either.

This game is a prequel to the rest of the series.. so most of the game you are fighting against the Furies.  I didn't love that because in the other games you constantly got to see the other gods and lots of mythological creatures.  We really didn't see too many in this game, just the Furies, Archimedes, and the Oracle.  Unlike the other GOW games this one does NOT allow you to switch to easy in the middle of the game. I played for 3 HOURS and it was just too tough for me.  So I kept dying and dying waiting for the notice to come up asking if I wanted to switch to easy and it never did.  So I had to start over... the DRAMA!!!

I give this game a 7 out of 10

Edit:
I was notified by Geek & Sundry that I won the collector's edition  of God of War.  I was so excited... I waited and waited and then 4 weeks after waiting I finally emailed the person back who contacted me.  They apparently didn't work there anymore and left an email address for someone to contact instead.  So I emailed that person who didn't bother to answer me back.

I emailed Geek and Sundry from their website on the contact us section...... I then tweeted to them to try to get someone to help me and figure out what was going on.  No one ever bothered to answer me.  Sucks.  So disappointed.  I mean.. wow guys wow.  Just rip my head off why don't you Geek And Sundry!
